In the former Higashi Awakura-son area of Mimasaka City, which lies in the northeast part of Okayama Prefecture, a shishimai dance is performed, the origin of which is said to go back to the Kaei era (1848-1854) of the Edo period. A Preservation Society has been established by the parishioners of Ushiroyama Shrine in the village and Myoken Shrine, which is the external branch shrine, and members perform and dedicate the shishimai dance at the Autumn Festival in October annually.
