|Omi jofu cloth|
The manufacturing technique of Omi jofu cloth, which is a traditional industry in the Omi Koto area, is facing a crisis and may disappear due to the rapid changes in social conditions and the resulting shift in the lifestyle around the area. Therefore, the technique of manufacturing the oldest Omi jofu that could be reproduced presently was recorded in the film.
The film includes the various techniques for producing the Kasuri moyo (a splashed pattern), including the Yoko-kasuri, where only the woof is dyed for the pattern and the cloth is woven, the Tateyoko-kasuri, where both the warp and woof are dyed for the pattern, and the Shiage or finish which is common to all the kinds of Kasuri cloth.
