The shishimai dance of Yamaji Oji Shrine is dedicated in the precincts of the shrine at the Annual Grand Festival (held on Physical Fitness Day in October; formerly held on October 15).
Yamaji Oji Shrine is located in the ruins of Hitotusbo Oji Shrine, along the Kumano Highway. The dance belongs to the same lineage as Fujishiro no Shishimai of the Fujishiro Oji (the present Fujishiro Shrine) to which it is linked by a road, although there are some differences between them. The dance has the form of Shichinindachi or seven dancers (the Fujishiro no Shishimai has the form of Gonindachi or five dancers).
