Chosai is a float dedicated in the Kumano Shrine Autumn Regular Big Festival. The float is made of a bogie of about 1.8 meters square, through which Japanese cedar logs 21 meters in diameter and about 13.5 meters long are inserted. It is gigantic, weighing 2.5 tons, and carried by 50 to 60 persons. Chosai starts from Shin-machi, parading the streets for two days, and is dedicated to Kumano Shrine. The event is said to go back about 200 years. There used to be four Chosais in the town but currently only one Chosai of Shin-machi remains.
(Event-holding date: Beginning to middle of October)
