This film introduces the Shibasashi Gyoji and related activities performed in the Amuro area of Uken-son (Amami Oshima Island) as well as the Hachigatsu Odori dance and songs which have been passed down in each area in the village.*Amami Islands Hachigatsu Odori dance and songs are transmitted verbally and due to the difficulty of passing them on to the younger generations, now faces the danger of extinction. Under such circumstances, the traditional Shibasashi Gyoji has been steadily passed down in the Amuro area of Uken-son. Especially, the Shibasashigin (Shingin) Gyoji relating to noro is considered an academically significant example of folk culture.
